Japanese Garden: Leaves

The Fall colors were just starting in the Japanese Garden and the rest of the Meijer Gardens. Here are some leaf images that caught my eye.

Leaves

While the star of the show is usually the blossom or fruit of a plant, leaves play a strong supporting role and sometimes even co-star in the flowery show. Here are a few leaf images.

Low Contrast

Low contrast days can be difficult for outdoor photography. Our “mostly sunny” forecast turned out to be a cloudy-with-more-clouds morning. Pat and I did get some pictures. A mutual friend let us roam her lakeside property which not only was photogenic, but also very restful.

Yeh, the sun came out just about the time we were worn out.

Reflections

The story often gets better – and perhaps a little embellished – in the retelling. Our reflections on the event are often “better” than the real thing. Occasionally the reflections of an object in water, mirror, or shiny surface are as good as or even better than the real thing. In the first two images the reflections enhance the image. In the last two photos the reflection is the image. The last shot has an impressionist quality caused by the rustling leaves and the gently moving river where the camera was aimed. As always, I welcome your thoughts, critiques, and comments.

Election Day

The images are not about election day. The title is just a reminder to vote if you happen to be in an area with elections today.

I have no thematic unity to these pictures (other than the photos being from the last week), just the images and your thoughts. The first two images are from a photo shoot at a bridge over a small lake. The water lilies and reflected cloud captured my eye as did the swans from the following picture as they whizzed through the air like leftover Halloween ghosts.

The leaves on the trees are well past their autumnal prime. Some trees are bare, some have turned brown, and some, like this tree, have just a few lingering leaves. The sparkling sun highlighted these leaves for me.

The last image is a picture of a picture hanging in our house near some similarly colored orchids.

It’s election day. Feel free to cast your vote for your favorite image,
