A River Runs Through It

Okay, so it’s more like a stream than a river, but it does run through the 53-acre Kate Palmer Wildlife Sanctuary located a mile or so from our new, down-sized home. It is also rather special because the stream has an oxbow (u-turn) in its trickling and meandering. It was my first visit, but won’t be my last. I did disturb a couple of large whitetail deer that waved their white flags at me as they retreated. The stream, Fall colors, and some wild mushrooms captured most of my attention. I hope you enjoy these glimpses from a couple of the trails winding through the preserve.

Bye Bye Flutterby

This early Fall flutterby (my word for butterfly for my grandkids), was enjoying some sun on our flower box. Looks from the wing damage like he or she may have been in a fight.

Mum’s the Word

What looked like mums turned out to be asters at the Trial Gardens. I learned later that all asters are mums, but not all mums are asters. Whatever. Just enjoy these Fall beauties.
